Posting Rules

What you can and cannot post on BaduAds.com, and how to write a listing that sells.

Last updated

These rules keep BaduAds.com useful and safe for everyone. Every listing must follow them. We may edit, move or remove listings that don't, and repeated or serious breaches can lead to account suspension under our Terms.

1. The basics

  • One item, one listing. Post each item, property, vehicle, job or service once. Don't repost the same item to push it up the results. Use a Bump up promotion instead.
  • Right category and location. Choose the category that best fits and the district where the item actually is.
  • Real and available. Only list things you have the right to sell and that are available now. Remove or mark the listing as sold when it's gone.
  • Honest price. Show the real price in LKR, or leave it empty for "Price on request". Don't enter a fake low price such as "1" to appear first.
  • Accurate details. Describe the condition honestly, including faults. For vehicles, give the real year, mileage and registration status. For property, give the real size and type of deed.

2. Photos

  • Use real photos of the actual item, up to the number allowed when posting. Stock images are only acceptable for brand-new boxed items.
  • No photos copied from other listings or websites, and no watermarks, logos or contact details over someone else's photo.
  • No nudity, violence or offensive images, and no photos that identify other people without their consent.

3. Title and description

  • Make the title describe the item, for example "Toyota Aqua 2018 – S grade, 62,000 km". Not "URGENT!!! CHEAP!!!".
  • No keyword stuffing, unrelated brand names or excessive capital letters and symbols.
  • Keep contact details in the contact fields, not in the title or photos.

4. Prohibited items and content

You may not list or promote:

  • anything illegal to sell or own in Sri Lanka;
  • drugs, narcotics, controlled or prescription medicines, and drug paraphernalia;
  • firearms, ammunition, explosives and weapons, including replicas that could be mistaken for real weapons;
  • stolen goods, or goods without proof of ownership where it's normally required, such as vehicles without valid registration documents;
  • counterfeit, replica or pirated goods, and copyright-infringing software, films or music;
  • protected wildlife, ivory, and animal products whose trade is restricted by law;
  • human organs, blood or body parts;
  • tobacco and alcohol sold in breach of the law, and any sale of these to minors;
  • government-issued documents such as identity cards, passports, licences, number plates or certificates;
  • personal data, hacked accounts, or tools for hacking or spying on people;
  • adult or sexual services, escort services, or content of a sexual nature;
  • pyramid or multi-level schemes, "get rich quick" offers, lotteries and gambling;
  • financial services that require a licence you don't hold, or offers that ask for upfront fees to release a loan or prize;
  • content that is hateful, discriminatory, threatening or defamatory.

5. Jobs

  • Job listings must be for a real vacancy, with the employer, location and type of work clearly stated.
  • Never ask applicants to pay a fee for a job, training, a visa or a uniform. Overseas job listings must comply with the requirements of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment.
  • Job listings must not discriminate on the grounds listed in our Equal Opportunity statement, unless a requirement is genuinely necessary for the role.

6. Animals

Animals must be healthy, legally owned and kept in humane conditions. Wild and protected species may not be listed. Give the animal's real age and any vaccination details.

7. Businesses

Businesses are welcome. Each listing must be a specific item or service, posted in the right category, and you must clearly be a business, not a private seller. Bulk duplicate listings aren't allowed.

8. Reporting a listing

If you see a listing that breaks these rules or looks like a scam, use the Report option on the listing or seller profile, or contact us. Read our Safety & Security advice for tips on spotting scams.
